The Spring Trips

After the first winter trip the Inland Waterways Society decided to try again with a trip in Easter 1972.  It was not a great success as far as bookings went because half the prospective crew decided to organise their own boat instead, leaving the boat only half full. Perhaps because of this the experiment was not repeated.

However, following the cancellation of the planned trip over the new year of 1978-9 due to ice, Ken Harrop organised a fortnight’s hire of a boat from Middlewich in May 1979. This was much more successful and Spring trips became the norm for the rest of “The Boat Trip Years”
